Practice:

A Goddess Ritual

This is a ritual to invoke the Great Mother Goddess and channel the energy of the Divine Feminine. Feel free to modify as you see fit, in whichever way works best in your individual practice.

Supplies

1-ounce amber-colored bottle with a glass dropper top

Essential oils of your choice, such as rose, cedarwood, bergamot,

lily of the valley, sandalwood, vetiver, or myrrh

Dried herbs, such as red clover, motherwort, red raspberry leaf,

mugwort, rose, or myrtle

Carrier oil like jojoba oil

Sea salt

Clean cloth to work on or an altar cloth

Incense of your choice (optional)

Dull carving knife or pencil

Small white or blue pillar, tapered, or pull-out candle (the latter burns for 7–10 days)

Rose quartz or clear quartz crystals

Bowl of spring water or filtered tap water

Preparation

Create your own custom Mother Goddess blend one drop at a time in the bottle. In a one-ounce bottle with a dropper, add approximately ten to twenty drops of your essential oil, depending on how strong you’d like the scent to be. You can also add a few dried herbs the bottle. Fill up the bottle halfway with your carrier oil, gently shake the bottle, and smell it again. Creating your own custom Goddess blend isn’t an exact science; it’s an art. Adjust with a few extra drops of various essential oils until you get your desired scent. Then fill the rest of the bottle with the carrier oil.

Step 1

First, use your light meditation to cleanse your aura and psychic energies (described on page 47). Focus on centering yourself. Next, cast a circle of protection around you by using your dominant hand to outline a circle of light around you and your working space. Then, sprinkle a bit of sea salt around your working area and the altar cloth and light your incense.

Step 2

Using your carving knife or a pencil, inscribe a triple moon symbol onto the center of the candle. You can also use any symbol that evokes the Divine Feminine for you, whether that’s waves for water, a full moon, a five-pointed star, a specific flower, a tree, a crown, a circle, a vagina, a downward-pointing triangle, a spiral within a circle, and so on. You can also work with the symbols found in the Empress card in the tarot, as representative of the Mother figure.

Step 3

Anoint the candle with your sacred Goddess oil and either rub the herbs on the candle or sprinkle them around the candle. Next, place the crystals in a circle around the candle (or in the shape of a five- or six-pointed star, the latter representing the conjoining masculine and feminine energies). You can also draw a downward-facing triangle, symbolic of the Divine Feminine and mysteries of the womb, around the candle using either the crystals or sea salt.

Step 4

Add a bit of sea salt to the bowl of water and dip your hands in it, using the water to cleanse your hands and anointing your temples, forehead, and wrists. Now, place your feet firmly on the ground beneath you, connecting with the earth (even if you’re indoors) through the soles of your feet.
